Music helps to not hear inside the silence that is outside.” — Johann Sebastian Bach
Music unfolds in countless languages. Over the course of the 20th century, the vast and diverse soundscape fragmented and was enriched with styles, genres, and expressive forms, greatly expanding the very concept of music and its language. A language that can create new forms of expression — often rooted in folk traditions — yet always able to speak to all as a universal code of emotion.
The 21st century has shown how this language can take on ever more intricate shapes, enriched with subtle shades and meanings. From a single, unified concept, we have moved to a constellation of styles that have redefined both music and the way we live it. Today’s era celebrates individual expression, urging musicians to explore and shape their own voice — sometimes entirely original. It is a time of boundless creative freedom, where every individual or community can carve out their own sonic space, contributing to a vast, multifaceted musical landscape.
Within this panorama, the classical guitar ventures into unfamiliar territory, becoming a voice of dialogue. It evolves, shaped by technological innovation and the search for unheard timbres, remaining vital both in preserving its historic repertoire and in exploring new techniques and styles. The delicate balance between innovation and tradition is now one of its defining traits.
It is here that my compositions are born— minimalist and ambient works designed to evoke visual and natural atmospheres, to capture the listener’s mood and carry them beyond consciousness, into a dream-filled sleep. These are sonic pages that trace the passing of time and its seasons, building emotional tension like a storm on the verge of breaking, portraying reality, nature, and humanity through the cycle of physical and emotional seasons: moments of tension, tenderness, and unease.
The journey opens with Suite Mediterranea – “I Quadri di un Ambiente”, a series of tonal pieces, uniform in timbre, built on rhythmic repetition and layering to create a hypnotic, contemplative effect. Conceived for the performance “Bentu de Notas” in the Molentargius Natural Park, the Suite unfolds in soundscapes of wind, light, and rhythm. In “Fuoco Ritmico”, the Sardinian sun becomes tribal dance, virtuosity, and ancestral heat.
From the Mediterranean, the path leads to Is Musicas – “Voyages”, three journeys — Direction, Emotion, Horizon — through the beauty of Sardinian landscapes, where sunlight shimmers on crystal waters in an explosion of vivid color. To travel is to walk toward the horizon, to meet others, to learn and to discover. Here, Sardinian, French, and English intertwine like three threads in a single weave, symbolizing an open, borderless musical world. “Emotion” is the beating heart of this voyage: emotions guide our actions and our relationship with the world, and music becomes the vessel that shapes and shares them.
The step turns to dance with Is Danzas – “Songs”, three sonic choreographies — Sérénade Mélodique, Cantus Harmonicus — inspired by Poetto Beach and its Spanish Tower. Here, light refracts on the water and the landscape becomes a vibrant, surreal sound painting.
The journey moves north to Someday in Paris, an improvised sonata in jazz style with flamenco inflections. Tonal and eclectic, it weaves improvisation and composition into a tight dialogue of rhythm and melody. Written for a gala at UNESCO’s Grand Auditorium, it is a meeting of creative freedom and formal elegance — a bridge between musical worlds.
Finally, the circle closes with Is Stasonis – “Le Stagioni”, a cycle through the seasons of the soul. Attongiu is slow, poetic, expressive: it evokes a dormant calm, like the slumber of Mimmo Paladino’s Dormienti. Autumn, with its colors, moves us even in its melancholy, alternating luminous major harmonies with dark, dramatic minors. Winter (Ierru) brings harsh voices and sounds, biting cold, and a powerful tribal rhythm: a storm of thunder and lightning rendered through the “Tambora” technique, revealing the guitar’s full expressive range.
This album is an invitation to pause and listen — to be carried on a dreamlike, sensory journey through landscapes both real and inner, weaving together languages and cultures, telling the story of Sardinia and its physical and emotional seasons. A musical path that breathes with nature, and with the soul of the listener.
